Merry Xmas everyone - I can't believe this time of the year has arrived... Time flys fast when your having FUN!

The graduation was held at the Wairoa War Memorial Hall for the final group of 16 families. This event was attended by over 100 families.

Minister Taria Turia unfortunately could not attend, however she was attended by her Ministerial Delegate Ms Louise Cole of the Department of Internal Affairs with Kaumatua Isaac Temple. Boycie Blake - First experience with using a computer

The thought of using a computer for some families was unheard of. "Never in a million years" was a phrase I had heard one too many times. Technology is for everyone, it is for our young children, young adults, parents and grandparents too. We have to learn to embrace technology - we remember what it was like learning to drive a car, with continuing practice we became confident drivers and got our licence so just like a car, you too will become a confident computer user. Congratulations to all our families who have graduated. Success! Success! Success!

I am so proud of everyone for taking on this new technology challenge, for challenging yourselves and for dedicating the time and effort to be apart of Computers in Homes.

We are proud of the 69 families that have graduated to date. That is a great accomplishment because it means that 69 families now have the opportunity to have a computer in their home and have access to the internet. The ability to connect family and friends that live afar on a daily basis through the use of SKYPE, to be able to email and receive photographs of your growing mokopuna and to those families that have registered in the Game Chatrooms, it is great to know that your friendship has continued on, even in the chatrooms. I especially liked hearing about how some families chat in Te Reo Maori in the Games Room to strategise their next move so no one else knows what they are talking about. The Internet is endless with knowledge and we congratulate you all for taking on this technology challenge and for sharing your wonderful computer stories with us.

Let's take a look at some of the families that make it possible for Computers in Homes to succeed in Wairoa. We receive a lot of appreciation from families, thank you to everyone who has supported us and continues to support us - together we can do great things in Wairoa. Kia Ora Tatou Katoa.

It is amazing to see the friendships created amongst everyone, we all have email accounts now so stay in touch and keep the stories, photos and movies coming in...

Computer Training During July 2010

Computer training during July was undertaken during the evening. Check out the photos to see how many families attended. Congratulations to everyone, we enjoyed having you at the CTC. It is always refreshing to have spouses attend computer training together, you benefit twice as much. Thanks for making the evening programme enjoyable and caring enough about each other to make sure that no one was left behind. The little things go a long way, Kia Ora.

Computer Training During June 2010

What an experience! Over 75% of the group had no computer experience and also had never touched a computer. A new experience is one that you will never forget...

Has everyone checked out the Scooters, three families attended computer training in their Scooters. To have our Senior Citizens travelling a total distance of approximately 2kms each way by Scooter is to be commended. When the rain fell, Kelly and I drove them into the CTC and parked them up, what fun we had.

Computer Training During May 2010

Thanks everyone for making our 2nd Pakeke programme memorable. Your thirst for technology knowledge is admirable. Over half of the families attending computer training were only recently registered on a six month Computer Programme with the Salvation Army, Ka Pai. The feedback we received from families has been fantastic, Computers in Homes has provided a platform for our families creating a wealth of energy that is inspiring and empowering for everyone to have an "I Can" attitude. Keep believing in yourselves because the world is now at the tips of your fingers.

What defines happiness? Could it be having alot of money, a good job, a caring family? A number of things define happiness... I have come up with a new definition of happiness, I can't describe it... so i'm going to show you ....

Congratulations to the first Senior/Pakeke Graduates for 2010. Congratulations to everyone who stepped out of their comfort zones and decided to take a new step towards learning about Computers. Ka Pai! To our Nanny Ira Pomana of Nuhaka, our eldest Pakeke, we can only inspire to be as fit in body and in mind and also to be driving ourselves back and forth from class at the age of 84 years.

Our first class and all the families were from Nuhaka and Mahia, with the exception of Sol Edwards from Wairoa. Alot of laughs and giggles and alot of friendships made.

2010 - New Community Training Centre (CTC) Opened in Wairoa

What an exciting year that 2010 has offered - we are pleased to open our doors and welcome everyone to our new Community Training Centre (CTC), situated in the old Technology/Manual Block of Tiaho School.

Thank you Tiaho School Board of Trustees for coming through and providing a base for Computers in Homes. On the 4th of March, the Community Training Centre was blessed by Kaumatua Fred McRoberts, the CTC marks a new milestone for Wairoa offering a central base for computer learning, technical support and maintenance for Computers in Homes families to succeed in Wairoa.

Computer Training with combined Wairoa District Schools

2009 - Thanks to Tiaho School Board of Trustees for providing a central base for Computers in Homes to undertake their computer training for Wairoa District School families. This dedicated computer training room enabled the project to collectively provide computer training to various School families who missed out or could not attend computer training at their local School. Congratulations to all the families who participated.

Strengthening families with technology is about connecting people of all ages. An emphasis for parents and caregivers to bring the children or grandchildren to computer training is encouraged. Children understand computers alot better than adults give them credit for. Children learn from various computer programmes on a daily basis at School. They are interactive with Microsoft Office programmes, internet surfing, social networking and emailing. Music and video are other programmes that children have proven to be skilled at.

Nuhaka School

Kia Ora Tatou

Nuhaka is situated 32kms east of Wairoa and approximately 77kms from Gisborne. The local School is the heart of the Nuhaka Community. The Nuhaka Play Centre is located on the School grounds and the local Kohanga Reo is approximately 1.2kms away.

Congratulations to those families who participated with Computers in Homes. There was never a dull moment during training with all the laughter and learning that went on. It was great to see families helping each other and appreciating that everyones experience with computers was different to their own.

The group applied their photography skills in producing a Community video of the resources and services that are available to the Community of Nuhaka. Identifying the local Networks gave families a greater appreciation in supporting the growth of their Community. Take a bow everyone for accomplishing this task within a short period of time.

Te Mahia School

Congratulations to the families who successfully completed their ICT training with Computers in Homes Wairoa.

Te Mahia School is situated approximately 60kms east of Wairoa. Computers in Homes ICT training was held in the Library which overlooks the stunning coastal area of Mahia.

There was an overwhelming response of families wanting to participate on the project and to those families who stepped up to the challenge first, congratulations and thanks for all the positive comments and feedback about the quality of computer training.

Ruakituri School

Congratulations to the Whanau O Te Kura O Waikaremoana especially nga tamariki for attending training and showing a lot of interest in the future of computers.

Thanks to Vicky Nash and the Board of Trustees for supporting Computers in Homes at the Kura and making available School resources to the project and families. Families successfully completed their training on the 19th of December.

Putere School

Wairoa College

Congratulations to all the families of Wairoa College who recently graduated on the 18th of July 2008. We would like to thank Mr Brian Stubbings and the staff of Wairoa College for allowing our project to be held in the T Block ICT Room.

Training was undertaken in two streams with families opting between day or evening training sessions. This was most useful as we were able to accommodate working and travelling families.

A diverse range of families with computer knowledge and a few families with absolutely no computer knowledge at all. There were families who were currently on computer training courses that attended, we thank those families for their evaluation and comments especially about how informative and interesting our training sessions were.

100% for training attendances, this was evident because families kept asking for more training... We wil be offering families extended time for post training and look forward to catching up with everyone again.

St Josephs School

Thank you Mr Richard Puanaki and the staff of St Josephs School for welcoming Computers in Homes Wairoa, for organising the participating families, providing the ICT Room for training and assisting us with the preparation of training resources and materials.

It was great to complete ICT training for families during the school holidays. Attendances from families was excellent and we would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for showing dedication to the kaupapa of this Computers in Homes Wairoa project.

A great effort to all the kids who participated on the programme, I especially enjoyed having the pre school children attend and spend their training day working on the thin clients. I was very impressed with their skills and knowledge working on the computers, a step in the right direction.

There was a diverse range of ages with St Josephs School families. A new born baby, preschoolers, primary school students, college students, parents and grandparents with the
odd sister, partner or aunt showing up.

A big thank you for to Channelle Rickard for stepping up and assisting with the Project coordination. This project channels on support from the Community and needs volunteers like Channelle to ensure its technology success to the people of Wairoa.

Welcome St Josephs School to the big wonderful world of ICT Technology.

Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Ngati Kahungunu O Te Wairoa

Congratulations to the Whanau of Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Ngati Kahungunu O Te Wairoa who successfully graduated from the Computers in Homes Wairoa project on the 1st of May 2008.

Thank you to Miriama Williams, Timene Smith, Staff and Whanau for welcoming Computers in Homes Wairoa into the Kura and for allowing us to be apart of the future education of our Whanau of Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Ngati Kahungunu O Te Wairoa.

The Whanau completed their 20 hours of ICT training through the May School holidays. This was a great opportunity to do training as everyone was able to attend. Top marks for attendance Whanau, it was a pleasure to teach everyone about "what a computer is?" and introduce you all to the technological world of computers and the Internet.
